risd|works is an innovative hybrid: a retail store, gallery and design showroom that features an annual collection and changing exhibitions of work by Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) alumni and faculty in a variety of media.
CELEBRITY GUIDED TOURS: Providence art celebrities take time to share their
thoughts about artworks on display. Artists Kenn Speiser and
Madolin Maxey will each lead a tour and design historian Nancy
Austin guides a tour entitled "Culture in Urban Corridors."
Nancy Austin is a RISD design historian. She has
published extensively on the history of art, design, and museums
in RI. Recent work includes three articles in the forthcoming book
“Infinite Radius”. [more]
Kenn Speiser is a sculptor with an international
reputation whose interests range from public sculpture to the varied
designs that line" security envelopes." [more]
Madolin Maxey Colors and shapes lead the eye in a vigorous dance around
her canvases. At first glance, her paintings seem to depict familiar
landscapes and actual locations, yet they are only loosely based
on reality. [more]
