May 2012 : Student work from the ACE Mentor Program of RI

This year the ACE Mentor Program of Rhode Island completed its eighth year working with local high school students interested in Architecture, Construction and Engineering.  Students' work will be displayed at AIA's Gallery Night on May 17th.

This year, our first year students in Providence and Pawtucket completed their designs for a single-family home.  Groups of approximately 3-6 students worked together with 1-3 mentors to design a creative yet user friendly home to be located in a local neighborhood.  Students designed their final presentation boards using their new drafting, sketching, Chief Architect and SketchUp skills and presented these at a final presentation night on March 14th.

This year three separate groups of returning students completed a variety of projects that were submitted to the 2012 ACE/CIRT (Construction Industry Roundtable) National Design Competition.  Two Providence submissions consisted of a Dual Purpose Parking Garage to be located in Newport as well as an American History Museum located in downtown Durango, Colorado.  This year's Pawtucket submission was a museum of music history to be located locally on a vacated site Pawtucket, RI.
